One of the most important aspects of endoscopy is reprocessing of the devices after use.
Critical to this is using appropriate cleaning and disinfecting products specifically formulated for use on endoscopes. This reduces the risk of transmission of infection and in turn Healthcare Acquired Infections (HAI’s).
The challenge however is getting them as clean as they should be. Scientific studies on reusable flexible endoscopes showed that 100% of patient ready endoscopes had bacterial biofilm present in their air/water channels.* This was clearly not an acceptable outcome.
Whiteley has been collaborating with universities all over the world and is revolutionising the world of biofilm research to develop products that provide superior protection for both patients and staff.
Whiteley developed the Proxy automatic endoscope reprocessing (AER) chemistry system, which is manufactured under strict protocols. Proxy plays a key role in the endoscope reprocessing process. The Proxy range includes concentrated enzymatic and non-enzymatic detergents for pre-disinfection cleaning, a high-level disinfectant/sterilant, an anticorrosive additive, and a 70% ethanol drying solution.
Whiteley has also developed Matrix, a revolution in the pre- cleaning stage of endoscope reprocessing. In this category Matrix is the leader in advanced biofilm removal. The formulation is more powerful than traditional Enzymatic based detergents, removing biofilm and impacting the viable bacteria within them.
